Charis_eBook_2 Minute DrillAre you smart or…  “Smart organizations don’t view year-end drives as the last two days of the year but the last 60 to 90 days.”  That quote was in an article in The Chronicle of Philanthropy.  It led me to wonder if we in the church are smart or naively blind to the great haul of giving that happens each and every end of year.  Sadly I fear I know the answer.

“At least a third of all donations nationwide are made in the last three months of the year.”  That is another direct quote.  In fact many charities will see 24% of their yearly giving come in the last few days of the year!

  • A UMC Church in Dayton, OH wanted to have their best ever Christmas offering.  With my coaching the raised almost 10% of their yearly giving in one month!
  • A SBC church needed to close gap on a giving decline.  On December 31st using a direct email I helped write they raised over $12K in five hours!

How important is it that you have an end of year giving strategy?  Consider that 24% of charities yearly giving comes between Thanksgiving and the end of the year.  That period is like the final two minutes of the fourth quarter of your giving year.  Winning teams build out effective strategies for the last two minutes of a game.  It is called the Two Minute Drill.  They practice their two minute game plan repeatedly throughout the year.
