Are you making giving plans?

Are you making giving plans?

Churches that are fully funded this year will be the ones that have last minute end of year giving plans.  Do you have a plan?  I have said for years that the key to giving success is to have a plan and work your plan.  It always amazes me that churches have growth plans, mission plans, discipleship plans but few if any have a plan to fund all their other plans!

I am helping churches across the country both large and small develop strategic plans for capturing more money in the closing weeks of the year.  These churches stand a better chance of ending the year in the black as a result.

End of Year Giving Facts – Consider these facts…

  • 50% of charities receive the majority of their funds from October to December.
  • 30% of annual giving occurs in December.
  • In the last few days of the year the average gift increases by as much as 50%.
  • 10% of annual giving occurs the last three days of the year!

If you were to go back and look at your giving patterns over the years you will find a similar result.  December literally is Christmas for a church!

If so much comes in at the end of the year why do churches lack end of year giving plans?  Here are my findings of why churches don’t work on an end of year plan.

  1. Lack of awareness – Most simply are not aware of the above stats that I shared and are clueless of the potential that exists to see a giving increase.
  2. Lack of time – At the same time that giving is up so is a churches activities.  The tyranny of the urgent keeps staffs from planning for an increase in giving.
  3. Lack of ability – No one trained us in seminary or Bible college how to do this kind of thing so we don’t do what we don’t know how to do!
  4. Lack of funding – Getting help is just seen as too expensive.  Churches are tight when it comes to spending money to hopefully raise money.
