We are half way into the year where do you stand when it comes to your budget? If you are like the vast majority of churches in America you are behind. If you are behind now I have bad news for you. We are in the toughest month to see giving increase, July. Your chances of being even further behind as you continue through the summer simply get worse. The real question is, what are you going to do about your decline?
Most churches hope next week or next month will be different. As the old saying goes, hope is not a strategy. I believe in working hard and praying harder. Yet I have to tell you that without some plan you will in all probability NOT make budget this year if you are behind now.
So, if you refuse to do anything to make up the budget deficit what missions, ministry or staff will you cut in the next few weeks? The reality is that something has to give. You cannot spend what you do not have. Are you ready to go home and tell your spouse next month’s salary will be less? Can I share a story of hope with you?
First Baptist Lithia Springs, GA was $45K behind going into the last two months of the year last year and faced severe cuts. That is when Pastor Kevin McKoy reached out to me, The Stewardship Coach for help. We began crafting a plan that helped them make up $36K of that gap. I believe if we had started sooner we would have hit 100% of his budget needs. As it was we saved them from a potential crisis.
That is just one story of many that I could give you. Churches, staff leaders and pastors simply don’t know what to do when they face a budget deficit. Here are some suggestions,
Know where you stand. Half way into the year you know what your giving trends are. However research what your last few years second half giving has been. From this you will have a fair picture of what your end of year will be like.
Get a plan and work your plan! Churches with giving plans have a greater chance of making budget than those without. Start your plan now at http://giving365.com/join-now-2/
Be positive in communicating your need. I call it connecting the dots. You have to tell people what their gift does to get their gift. Every week I write an offering talk for my members that shares exciting reasons why people should give. We want to create an atmosphere where by people WANT to give.
Get the help you need. Frankly seminaries and colleges don’t train ministers in how to increase giving. You need help and you have come to the right place.
For $1 a day you can get help that will increase your giving just like First Baptist Lithia Springs, GA! Would $365 of investment make sense to raise $36K? If you have doubts try my plan for 14 days for $1. You can cancel at the end of 14 days or keep me as your stewardship coach.
