Do you have a Memorial Day Giving plan?

Do you have a Memorial Day Giving plan?

Holiday weekends are killers for offerings which is why  you need my 4 step Memorial Day Offering Plan!

The major reason why your Memorial Day offering will be low of course is that your attendance takes a dive.  The age old axiom is true that when there are fewer behinds in the pews there is fewer dollars in the plate.  You can close your eyes and predict this.  Year after year you see the same results, a decreased amount of giving.  Sadly your bills don’t take the weekend off and still arrive screaming to be paid.  So what is a smart church to do?  Plan ahead!

To assure being fully funded you need a holiday weekend strategy.  You know giving will be off unless you do something so do something!  Don’t wait until after the holiday week start now planning for how to offset the predicted decline in the offering.  How?  Let me show you.

First, as always, you need to have the tools in place that will allow you to successfully raise dollars even during a holiday weekend.  Online giving is the key to this.  You also in my view need a good email tool such as Constant Contact of Mail Chimp.  These tools allow you to send mass emails effectively and personalize them to your donors.

2016 Memorial Day Offering Plan – Follow these steps to offset your potential decline.

Step One:  Mail a snail mail letter on Monday May 23rd.  If you doubt the power of good old fashioned snail mail consider that it is still the number one generator of donations for charities.  So, get your lure into the water.  All letters should have a self-addressed stamped envelope included in them for ease of use.  Also, use the PS to highlight online giving.

Step Two:  Email your donors on Thursday May 26th reminding them of the importance of giving.  Your email should be short and to the point. It must also contain multiple clickable links to your giving page.

Step Three:  Email your donors Sunday May 29th encouraging them to give while away.  The same principles as above should guide your send.

Optional Step Four:  Consider one last follow up email blast on Memorial Day May 30th.  You could wish them a happy Memorial Day and give them one last chance to make up that lost offering.  My members received all this and you can to by going to…
