Campus Poster on GivingHow can you make your campus more giving friendly?  I am glad you asked! That is my focus this week as we continue the series  of posts on building out  plans for giving success. We have been focusing upon the five platforms that lead to building a strong giving base. In this post I want to talk about the Campus  Track.  What happens on your campus that adds to or detracts from giving?  In all  your plans don’t forget to plan your campus for giving success.

When I walk onto your campus am I reminded of the importance of giving? That is what I want you to think about as you read this.  Later do a test for yourself.  Walk around your campus and see for yourself how it might look to those that attend your campus.  Let me share with you the following tips that I think can help you create an atmosphere on your campus that enhances giving.

Use envelopes! I know you might think this is old school but if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Envelopes are a powerful tool for collecting money. Make sure every rack holding envelopes is full, upright and ready for easy use. I cannot tell you how many times I have been in a worship facility to find empty or disorganized racks. Something as simple as maintaining the envelope rack can make all the difference in the world. Any church can implement this!

Use posters and banners to highlight giving.  The picture on this page is of a client of mine.  This huge banner hangs in the back of their worship center. While something like this might be too costly for you, posters hanging throughout your complex is a great way to focus upon giving. I regularly recommend that churches utilize a tool like this to encourage people of the importance of giving.  The more personalized the banner or poster, using real pictures of ministry and missions in action the more likely they will be to elicit donations for your church.

Use giving kiosks. Can someone give to your church at your campus if they don’t have a check or cash?  We are so used to being able to pull out our plastic for purchases yet when I go to church I find that is virtually impossible.  Why?  Giving kiosk are now very inexpensive to use.  Many of my client churches have built their own systems.  You can easily do the same.  Beyond giving members an easy way to give, the kiosk is a nonthreatening reminder of giving. As such you should have giving kiosks in every major traffic flow of your church. Remember the easier you make it for people to give the more they will give.

So get up from your desk and take a walk around your campus and ask yourself what, if anything, encourages me to give? Then put together a plan to make your campus more giving friendly!
