Why Churches Are Struggling Financially

Why Churches Are Struggling Financially

Giving to the Church in America is on decline and to offset that you need to know why churches are struggling financially.   I have been working for twenty years to see the decline in giving be reversed.  My life’s vision is, “To reverse the decline in giving one church at a time.”  The biggest hurdle I have in fulfilling this vision are the churches themselves.  Too many simply don’t pay attention to giving.  In my twenty years of work here are what I have found as the major reason churches are struggling financially. First and foremost, a church that is […]

Why Sears Matters to Your Church

Sears last week announced the closing of 150 more stores and you need to know why Sears matters to your church.  You may not have anyone in your church that works for Sears. There may not even be a Sears in your town.  It doesn’t matter if you shop at Sears or not for this to matter to your church.  Sears closing stores is a trend we are seeing and it will have an impact upon churches.  I could have easily used J. C. Penny, Barnes and Noble or other traditional brick and mortar stores to illustrate the change in […]

The State of Church Giving is Declining

The state of church giving is declining says a study published by empty tomb, inc. entitled, “The State of Church Giving through 2014.”  John and Sylvia Ronsvalle have been producing the definitive study on the state of giving to churches and have recently released their twenty-sixth edition.  They track giving data from 1968 up to 2014 in their recent release.  Their findings are not encouraging.  Here is what they have found… 3.02% was the amount Americans gave of their disposable incomes to the church in 1968.  That percentage in 2014 was 2.16%. 2.38% was given to congregational finances in 1968 […]

We Hope to Increase Our Budget

We Hope to Increase Our Budget

“We hope to increase our budget from 800K to $1 million.”  That was what a person told me their pastor stated recently at a congregational meeting.  Hope?  The saying, “hope is not a strategy,” first came to my mind.  When churches use the word hope it is far different than when the Bible talks about hope.  Hope in the Bible is a firm confidence.  Hope when used by a church about giving means, well, maybe, perhaps. I have a question pastor, how do you plan to make that hope a reality?  That would have been my question.  I would not have […]
