When asked if you need to raise funds the answer is, yes you do need to raise funds! Recently we were at Catalyst Atlanta with our booth sharing what we do with those in attendance. My director of Marketing Tom Holloway saw a guy walking by our booth looking back at our display. Tom asked him, “Do you need to raise any funds at your church?” The guy replied, no. Tom then asked, “Do you take up an offering on Sunday?” The guy replied yes. Tom’s response was, “Then yes you do need to raise funds!”
“Pastors need to get out of thinking that the only time they have to raise funds is when they go into a capital campaign.” That was what Ronnie Floyd the current president of the Southern Baptist Convention and pastor of Cross Church of Northwest Arkansas, America’s 48th largest church told me not long ago. Ronnie “gets it” that unless your church is fully funded you will not be able to do what God has laid upon your heart. Yet he also points out the obvious problem that we have, getting church leaders to understand that raising funds is a 24/7 365 need.
You will need to raise funds every week of your ministry for as long as you are in ministry. One other reality you need to embrace is this, every year giving to the church is declining thus making your task all the more important and yet all the more difficult.
