I want to share with you why going back to school might just save your ministry. I have two theological degrees and hours of doctrinal work from various fine religious institutions of higher learning. I studied Greek, Hebrew, Church History, Preaching and a host of other subjects. In all those years I never remember one class that ever discussed giving and how to work to see giving increase. Never. My guess is the same is true for you.
I learned what I learned about giving through self-study and the school of hard knocks. I read books, listened to tapes and went to seminars. I had to as my training left me ill prepared for the decline in giving that had started to impact churches at the start of my pastoral ministry.
Giving to religion is predicted to decline again this year. What are you going to do about it? empty tomb, inc. has a frightening prediction based upon giving data that by the year 2050 giving to the church as a percentage of Americans incomes will be 1%. Many of you reading this will still be in active ministry. If this trend of decline continues it may very well put you out of the ministry. What are you going to do right now to reverse this?
