Let’s put some thought into the offering!  Psalms 116:12 says, “How can I repay the Lord for all his goodness to me?”  Great questions.  The answer is really we can’t.  However this verse shows that the Psalmist was putting thought into his gift.  One key to being fully funded is to take some time to think about the offering.

Do you put thought into your gift?  What a great question!  Is your giving thoughtful?  Or do you simply do the math and give 10% or whatever and move on?  How many of your members really think about what they are going to give BEFORE they give it?  Now before you say Amen, let me ask…

Do you put thought into the offering time?  Be honest.  Do you plan what you will say?  Do you attempt to make it meaningful and worshipful?  Or do you simply wing it, saying whatever comes to mind?  Do you say anything more than simply calling the ushers forward and praying for the offering?  Most pastors and churches make the offering time one of the most boring moments of worship.

Is it any wonder that giving to the church is in a continual decline?

Here is what I have learned in life, we find time for what we value.  We spend money on what we value.  When you hurry through the offering time saying little or nothing you are communicating that the offering is not important.  When the offering time fuels your missions and ministry why would you not spend time making it meaningful?  You might find that if you put some thought into the offering the results might be better.

The offering is a teachable moment, put some thought into it!

If you don’t put any thought into the offering why should you be surprised that your members don’t?  So, why not do something about your offering this week?  Put some thought into it.  Doing so just might help you make ends meet at the church.
